Chapter 9

"I'm what?" Stryker questioned as his grip on his side arm become tigther by the second. "The Argo Warrior. A being with access to incredible power. You are destined to protect Lylat," Tiberus explained. "Sorry but I'm afraid you are mistaking me for somebody else. Now I think it's best you leave."Tiberus chuckled a bit at Stryker's threat and shook his head several times. "What's so funny?" Stryker asked. "In all my years of training the Argo Warriors I've never met one so stubborn," Tiberus replied. "Maybe cause you happen to be talking to the wrong person," Stryker retorted. Tiberus gave a cold stare and slowly approached Stryker. The two stared at each other for several moments with Stryker still holding Tiberus at gunpoint. "Don't try to deny who are you Stryker. You know you have extraordinary abilities. For instance the way you dispatched those Sharpclaw back on Sauria or the way you fought those soldiers on the Greatfox." "And how do you know all of this?" Stryker growled. "Because I've been with you this whole time. I was the voice in your head. The one who told you to let go of your restraints," Tiberus replied as he tapped at Stryker's head. Stryker froze. He had only told Fox of this and eve though this "Tiberus" looked like both himself and Fox this fox clearly wasn't his brother. "Alright let's say I believe you what is it you want?" Stryker inquired. "To help you become the Argo Warrior of course, but not yet. First you must accept who you are. Only then will you be ready for what I have planned for you. For now it's best you wake up." Before Strykercould respond he felt someone shaking him. He then awoke from his sleep and saw both Wolf and Darrell staring at him. He was back in the room still sitting in the chair. Had he been dreaming this whole time? Or was it real? "You alright Stryker?" Wolf asked. Stryker regained his train of thought and looked at Wolf. "Yeah I'm fine." "Anyways the blizzard has died down so I've laready dispactehd the scouts. They should find Fox and the others soon," Wolf said. Stryker takes a moment before responding, "Thanks for helping out Wolf. I owe you one." "Nah we're squared besides I need to call in my favor that Fox owes me," Wolf replied. "What exactly does he owe you?" "Not much just need a way off this place. Been getting some harrasment from these mercs who work for this Nolan character. I would womp on them but they've got numbers over me and I'm not dying over a giant ice cube," Wolf explained. Stryker became bitter upon hearing Nolan's name. "I take it from that look on your face that he's been harrasing you as well?" Wolf asked. "Let's just say we have some history that involves me having to get rid of him." "Failed assignment?" Wolf asked. "You can say that," Stryker stated.

For hours Stryker and Wolf waited for the scanner to pick up Fox and the other's locations, but the robotic scouts turned up with nothing. the computers showed that most of the planet was searched, but a good majority was still being scanned. Then Stryker's com went off signaling someone was trying to contact him. "This is Stryker," he answered. There was nothing but static. "Fox, Falco is anyone there?" he asked. "I'm afraid they can't come to the com but I'm here Stryker. Let's talk,' said a familiar voice. "Where are they Nolan?" Stryker demanded. "Your brother and his crew? They are fine. We couldn't find your girlfriend and that Krystal girl, but this catch will suffice," Nolan replied. "What do you want?" "Simple, I want you. Come to thse coordinates alone and I'll propose an exchange." "And if I don't?" "You know the answer to that Stryker. You have two hours starting now..." The com went silent. "You aren't seriously thinking about going?" Wolf asked. "Have to Wolf." "You're literally going to just walk right into his trap without giving it any thought?" Stryker just gove a cold stare at Wolf. "Ok stupid question to ask, but still he's got to have at least 3 platoons at his disposal," Wolf retorted. "Good. It's enough to make a statement." "Stryker I don't doubt that you can do this but what if he has a back-up plan and kills you?" Wolf inquired. "I don't have much choice Wolf. Besides if he kills Fox you'll be stuck here," Stryker replied. Wolf sighs, "Alright, but what about the girls?" "Keep looking. If Nolan hasn't found them then they still could be in a safe location so keep an eye on the scanners and if you find them make sure they get here safely," Stryker said. "Look before you go take some gear with you. I have an armory in the back," Wolf stated. Stryker nodded and headed for the armory. In the armory there were several stockpiles of weapons and gear including gear to help deal with the bitter cold. He quickly put on a snow suit that would help camoflauge himself within the surroundings. he then grabbed a sniper rifle with an attached surpressor along with a scope with up to ten times magnification. A few grenades, a pistol for a side arm and a combat knife made him fully ready for battle. Before leaving Stryker spent a few moments with Darrell who pleaded that his father stay, but Stryker smiled and assured Darrell that he'd be back soon. A strong hug from both was the last bit of contact before Stryker headed out to attempt a rescure mission. A mission to save Falco, Slippy, Peppy and most important Fox.

Slippy, Falco, and Peppy were being held in a cell within the stronghold. The bars were electricfied so escape wasn't an option. Fox was kept seperate from his crew for certain purposes. He was chained to a chair arms and legs and was being held in the main tent; Nolan's tent. A large cut was formed about his left eye. From the shape and form it had come from the butt of a rifle. Blood had trickled it's way down oever fox's eye to his chin. He was unconsious. Suddenly a soldier threw cold water on him which woke him instantly. Stand before him was Nolan and his guard. "Sorry to have waken you so rudely Mr. McCloud. I do hope you can forgive my ethics and maybe discuss some sort of a deal. "Good luck. There's nothing that I want from you," Fox replied. "How about the lives of your teammates in exchance for your cooperatin?" Nolan suggested. "Stay away from them or..." "Or what? you think you can escape? My men are ordered to shoot you on site the moment you try to escape. And upon your death your teammates will be executed so why go to the trouble just to be shot and killed the moment you step out of this tent?" Fox couldn't answer. He knew Nolan was right, but he wanted to break fre and escape with his friends. He wanted to do everything he could to get away but all of his options ended with his death and the deaths of his teammates. "You won't win Nolan." "Why? Because Stryker is on your side? Let me tell you something that you don't know aobut him. The moment he sees something that will benefit him he'll turn against you. He's not loyal to anyone. His loyalty lies only to himself." "You're wrong! Stryker may seem to be a loner, but he's family and he'll be here to get me and my team out," Fox hollered. "So you think. He's only coming for me. you are just a liability." Nolan replied. Fox strugled to get free but it was futile. "Face it McCloud Stryker is only here for me and the moment he gets here his death will occur swiftly," Nolan laughed.

Outside the wind started to pick up which was a prelude to another possible blizzard. The gurads were on their regular patrols. There were a few in the makeshift towers but the majority were either in their tents or patroling the grounds. Suddenly one of the guards falls straight out of the tower. Several of the guards on the ground go to check on him but they soon realize he's dead due to the massive amount of blood coming from his head. Then out of the blue the second guard falls out of the tower in the same fashion. Blod poured out of his head. Several moments later the rest of the guards in the towers fell out as well. The alarm went off and everyone was getting into battle positions. Nolan quickly walked out and stopped a soldier in his tracks to question what was happening. "What's the situation seargent?" "Sir we have an enemy sniper firing at us. We are trying to pinpoint his loca..." A bullet managed to find it's way to the seargeant's head which caught Nolan off guard. "It's Stryker! Find him and bring him to me alive!!!!!" Nolan shouted. Confusion ran throughout the stronghold. Nobody was able to pinpoint Stryker's location and the fear of a random shot was forcing moral to drop among the men. Then Nolan notices a glare in the distance. His gut told him it was Stryker. "Up there! Quick before he gets away!" Nolan ordered. Several troops raced to capture Stryker, however the moment they reached the area there was nobody there except the rifle. Then a shot from a rocket launcher hit the area as the explosion killed all the troops near the rifle and flug their bodies all over the immediate area. "Damn you Stryker," Nolan said under his breath. Meanwhile near the prison cell a shadow life figure took out the two soldiers guarding it. "What was that?" Falco asked as he went to examine what was going on. Suddenly Stryker appeared on the other side of the electric bars. "Well if it isn't the oldier brother," Falco said sarcasticly. "Hey be glad I'm here to break you out. Where's Fox?" Stryker asked. "We don't know. After we were captured they kep him sperated from us." Slippy replied. "That's strange. Why would Nolan keep Fox seperate?" Stryker thought. His thought was immediately cut off when several shots made contact with him. Stryker ducked for cover behind a crate and readied his side arm. "Always the tricky one eh Stryker?" Seems you haven't lost your touch," said a familiar voice. "Well when you are always having to fight for your life on a daily basis you tend to always keep your survival skills at their peak," Stryker replied. "Well what do your survival instincts tell you when you are faced with this kind of situation?" Nolan asked as he snapped his fingers. A couple of soldiers appeared next to Nolan holding up a beaten up Fox. Stryker slowly stood up with his pistol up and pointed in Nolan's direction. "Someone you care about approaching death with soldiers ready to shoot him the moment you shoot me. Tell me Stryker what do all those years of training tell you to do?" Stryker let out a low growl. He was fast, but he wasn't sure if he was fast enough to save Fox and the others. What should he do? Should he risk trying to save the group? Or should he give up and hope to make another attempt?" "Time's up Stryker. What's it going to be?" Nolan questioned. Stryker let out a sigh and tossed his pistol away. Defeated with no other options at his disposal. "You win this time Nolan, but I'll be back for you," Stryker stated. "Sorry Stryker not this time." Trhee shots hit Stryker's chest almost instantly. the shots came from a magnum that Nolan had hidden behind him. Stryker looked down and saw nothing but blood pour out from the three bullet holes in his chest. He slowly fell to his knees barely realizing what had happened. "Stryker! Noooooooooooo!!!" Fox and the others yelled. Stryker laid flat on the ground with his blod painting the snowy ground dark red. Fox fought back ot try and get to Stryker, but a butt of a rifle made contact with his head and knocked him out cold. The soldiers begain to leave towards a dropship that was waiting for them. With the last bit of strength Stryker lifted his head to see Fox taken into the ship as his vision slowly blurred and eventually faded into darkness.
